ICON Nutrition Recovery has been formulated to ensure that your body receives everything it needs after a workout to kick start the recovery process after a tough training session. With a mixture of Carbohydrates, Protein, Antioxidants and Electrolytes this formula is a potent mix that should be a part of every athlete’s recovery strategy.

The protein that we used in Recovery v2 is high quality Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) & Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC) which has an excellent Amino acid profile and is rapidly digested by the body to reach the muscles quickly and begin the recovery process as fast as possible.

Carbohydrates are essential post workout to cause an Insulin spike driving nutrients to your muscles such as amino acids; this is why we have included Carbohydrates in the form of Maltodextrin and Waxy Maize Starch which will rapidly be absorbed by the body driving nutrients in to the muscle cell and restocking Muscle and Liver Glycogen quickly.

We have included powerful Antioxidants Vitamin C & E to this formula, when we exercise or put our body under stress, through chemical reactions within the body to create energy the by-product is Free Radicals, these free radicals attack cells damaging the cell structure that can lead to a slower recovery and over time if not controlled, serious illness.

Electrolytes are very important for the active person especially during hot climates. Electrolytes are what our body uses to pass electrical impulses between cells and aid re-hydration within the body and are essential for muscle contractions. Through sweat and perspiration we can begin to dehydrate and lose these essential salts in the body. As little a reduction of 2% loss in bodyweight through water can begin to affect an athlete’s performance levels and research has shown that more than 5% can hamper performance by as much as 30% making it vital for athletes to replenish fluids and salts lost from exercise (1)

For an extra boost we have added 2 key Amino Acids in the form of L-Glutamine and L-Leucine. L-Glutamine has shown how important it is at protecting the digestive system and can also be beneficial at decreasing your recovery time between training sessions. L-Glutamine is also a cell volumiser, further drawing important nutrients in to the muscle. L-Leucine on the other hand is known as being one of the most Anabolic amino acids meaning that it contributes to the growth of muscle mass and recovery.
